Now that is a Goddamn lie
More news about Gore's endorsement of Dean.
Call by Gore Does Little to Soothe Lieberman
More importantly, check this out:
Though General Clark insisted that the Gore endorsement would not have any effect on his own campaign, he did make a sly adjustment to the changed landscape. In a speech on Monday, well before news of the Gore endorsement broke, he said of the administration of President Bush's father, "Al Gore used to say, `Everything that should be going up is going down, and everything that should be going down is going up.'"
That's not true. It's on fucking CSPAN's website. Bill Clinton attributes it to Gore back in '92 at Tom Harkin's Steak Fry. The link takes you to coverage of this year's Steak Fry, but the beginning of the program contains archive footage from 11 years earlier due to a rain delay at this year's live event.
On Tuesday, the retired general attributed the same remark to Mr. Clinton.
"People told me that Bill Clinton said it," he explained to reporters. "That's where it came from, as far as I know. Al Gore said it, too, and Al Gore made it into a big thing. But today I thought I'd give credit to President Clinton on this."
